Does Google have a spellcheck?
I wrote this post a while back. The content can still be relevant but the information I've linked to may not be available.
One of the best methods (we think) for getting to the top of Google is to write good website content on a frequent basis (let’s say, update your website once a week). Does Google reward websites that are well-written with good punctuation and no spelling errors? Does Google have a spellcheck?
Everyone says that Google has over 100 factors in the algorithm it uses for ranking websites. Do these include spelling and punctuation checks? Google (and any other search engine) wants high quality websites to be in its search listings. Does this mean that Google runs the ruler over your writing for spelling and grammatical errors?
The most popular websites try and make it easy for people to read each page (makes sense doesn’t it?!). They use short paragraphs, often with short sentences (for example the BBC News website), and bulleted or numbered lists are often used to enhance readability.
Does Google add these factors into its algorithm mix? Whatever the answer (and we think it might be yes), it also makes sense to adopt these practices for your ‘real’ website visitors. A website with spelling mistakes is a sure way of increasing the use of the Back button!
PS Please don’t find a typo in this article!
